Begin your journey with a drive from Chandigarh/Delhi to Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh, known for its colonial architecture and beautiful landscapes. Upon arrival, check-in at your hotel and spend the evening at leisure. You can take a relaxing stroll on Mall Road or visit the Ridge and the famous Christ Church, immersing yourself in the cool mountain breeze and quaint charm of Shimla.
On Day 2, take an excursion to Kufri, located about 16 km from Shimla. Kufri is famous for its panoramic views and is a hub for adventure activities like horse riding, skiing (in winters), and hiking. After exploring Kufri, return to Shimla and visit the Jakhu Temple, dedicated to Lord Hanuman, located at the highest peak of Shimla. You can also visit the Viceregal Lodge, once the summer residence of British viceroys. Spend the night in Shimla.
After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive to Manali, passing through lush valleys, rivers, and the stunning Himachali countryside. En route, stop by Pandoh Dam and Sundar Nagar Lake for a quick break. Reach Manali by evening, check in at your hotel, and relax. You can spend the evening exploring the local markets or enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of this hill station.
Start your day with a visit to the Hidimba Devi Temple, an ancient cave temple surrounded by deodar forests. Next, head to Vashisht Hot Water Springs and Vashisht Temple, known for its healing properties. Later, explore the Manu Temple and visit the Tibetan Monasteries. In the evening, take a leisurely walk around Old Manali or shop for souvenirs at Mall Road. Overnight stay in Manali.
After breakfast, enjoy an adventurous day trip to Solang Valley, a haven for outdoor activities like paragliding, zorbing, and cable car rides. If the weather permits, you can also visit the Rohtang Pass (at an extra cost), a high mountain pass that offers breathtaking views of snow-clad peaks. Enjoy some snow activities or simply marvel at the beauty of the surrounding landscape. Return to Manali by evening and relax at your hotel.
On Day 6, begin your journey to Dharamshala, a picturesque hill station and the residence of the Dalai Lama. En route, visit Palampur, known for its tea gardens and scenic beauty. Arrive in Dharamshala by evening and check into your hotel. Spend your evening exploring McLeod Ganj, the vibrant Tibetan settlement known for its monasteries, local cafes, and Tibetan culture.
After breakfast, explore Dharamshala's key attractions, including Dalai Lama Temple Complex, Namgyal Monastery, and the Bhagsu Waterfall. Visit the St. John in the Wilderness Church, nestled in the deodar forests, and later explore the Tibetan Museum. You can also visit Dal Lake and Naddi Village for some serene views. In the evening, explore local markets for Tibetan handicrafts. Overnight stay in Dharamshala.
Leave Dharamshala and drive towards Dalhousie, a quiet hill station known for its colonial charm and natural beauty. On arrival, check in at your hotel and relax. In the evening, take a leisurely walk along Gandhi Chowk and Subhash Baoli, or visit St. John’s Church. Dalhousie offers scenic views of the snow-capped Pir Panjal range, making it a perfect place for unwinding.
After breakfast, take an excursion to Khajjiar, often referred to as the “Mini Switzerland of India” due to its rolling meadows and dense deodar forests. Enjoy the breathtaking beauty of Khajjiar Lake, where you can also indulge in activities like zorbing or horse riding. On the way back, visit Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary, which offers beautiful hiking trails and wildlife sightings. Return to Dalhousie for an overnight stay.
On your final day, drive to Amritsar. Upon arrival, visit the iconic Golden Temple, the spiritual and cultural center for Sikhs. After that, head to Jallianwala Bagh, a historical garden that marks the tragic massacre of 1919. In the afternoon, attend the ceremonial Wagah Border flag-lowering ceremony at the India-Pakistan border, a patriotic display of military precision and camaraderie. After a fulfilling day in Amritsar, either depart for Delhi/Chandigarh in the evening or stay overnight in Amritsar (as per your preference).
The best time to visit Himachal Pradesh, including Shimla, Manali, Dharamshala, and Dalhousie, is between March to June for pleasant weather or October to February for snowfall and winter activities. For Amritsar, the weather is most comfortable in October to March.
