Arrival: Reach Leh Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport. Acclimatization: Rest and acclimatize to the high altitude (11,500 feet). This is crucial to avoid altitude sickness. Evening: Take a leisurely walk around Leh market or visit the local monasteries if time permits.
Shanti Stupa: A beautiful white-domed stupa offering panoramic views of Leh. Leh Palace: Explore this ancient royal residence. Sankar Monastery: A small yet important monastery near Leh. Evening: Enjoy local cuisine at a restaurant.
Drive: Travel via the Khardung La Pass (18,380 feet) to Nubra Valley. It’s one of the highest motorable passes in the world. Visit: Diskit Monastery: Explore this monastery and see the giant Buddha statue. Hunder Sand Dunes: Enjoy a camel ride on the sand dunes and take in the unique landscape. Overnight: Stay in a camp or hotel in Nubra Valley.
Drive: Head to Pangong Lake, passing through the Shyok River route (if open) or returning to Leh and then proceeding. Scenic Drive: Enjoy stunning landscapes along the way. Arrival: Check into your camp near Pangong Lake. Evening: Relax by the lake and take in the stunning sunset views.
Morning: Enjoy the beauty of Pangong Lake in the morning light. Return: Drive back to Leh. Evening: Free time to relax or explore Leh at your leisure.
Drive: Travel to Tso Moriri Lake, another beautiful high-altitude lake. Explore: Enjoy the serene environment and the surrounding mountain scenery. Overnight: Stay in a camp near Tso Moriri Lake.
Morning: If you visited Tso Moriri, drive back to Leh. Departure: Transfer to the airport for your flight back home.
The best time to visit Leh Ladakh is from late May to September. During these months, the weather is relatively mild, and most of the roads and high-altitude passes are open. The winter months (October to April) can be extremely cold, with temperatures dropping well below freezing, and many roads are closed due to snow.
Warm Clothing: Layers including thermal wear, jackets, gloves, and hats. Sunscreen: High-altitude sun exposure can be intense. Sunglasses: Protect your eyes from the bright sun and UV rays. Medications: For altitude sickness, personal prescriptions, and first-aid supplies. Camera and Batteries: Batteries drain quickly in cold weather, so carry extras.
ATMs: There are ATMs in Leh, but they might not always be reliable. Carry some cash with you. Internet: Internet connectivity is available in Leh and major towns, but it may be limited or slow in remote areas. Consider buying a local SIM card if needed.
