Morning: Arrive in Katra: Take an early morning train, bus, or drive to Katra, which is the base camp for the Vaishno Devi pilgrimage. Check-In: Arrive in Katra and check into your hotel. Drop off your luggage and freshen up. Late Morning/Early Afternoon: Start the Trek: Begin your trek to the Vaishno Devi shrine. The trek is about 13 kilometers (8 miles) uphill. It’s advisable to start early to allow ample time to complete the trek and visit the shrine. You can opt for pony rides or palanquins if needed, but walking is the preferred option for most pilgrims. Afternoon: Lunch on the Way: There are several eateries and refreshment points along the trek. Enjoy a light meal or snacks en route. Evening: Reach the Shrine: Arrive at the Vaishno Devi shrine. Participate in the evening Aarti (ritual) and spend time at the temple, soaking in the spiritual atmosphere. Accommodation Near Shrine: If you prefer, you can opt for accommodation at the Bhavan (near the shrine) for a night’s stay. Alternatively, you can return to Katra, but this may be less convenient. Overnight: Stay either at the Bhavan near the shrine or return to your hotel in Katra.
Morning: Darshan and Breakfast: If you stayed at the Bhavan, complete your darshan (worship) at the shrine early in the morning. Return to your accommodation, freshen up, and have breakfast. Descend the Trek: If you stayed at the Bhavan, start your descent back to Katra. Alternatively, if you returned to Katra the previous evening, you can relax and have breakfast at your hotel. Late Morning/Early Afternoon: Explore Katra: If time permits, explore Katra briefly or do some local shopping. Visit nearby attractions or rest at a local café. Afternoon: Departure: Check out from your hotel and proceed to your onward journey. Travel back to your home or next destination by train, bus, or road.
